dutch-style dessert 'kwark' / 'fromage frais' in southern calif

I%26#39;m trying to find a source for a dessert I%26#39;m addicted to. In Holland (and possibly Germany?) it%26#39;s called %26#39;kwark%26#39;. It%26#39;s roughly the same as what is known as %26#39;fromage frais%26#39; in France (and this would do me). I%26#39;m looking for the dessert varieties, not the plain kind. The best possible outcome would be the same products I can buy in Holland, which are the Danone and Almhof brands. Oh. I%26#39;m not looking for a recipe; what I%26#39;m looking for is a ready-made product, available in a store. I%26#39;m located in San Diego, but anywhere in Southern California would do.
Hello pelicano, The Van Nuys German Deli appears to have quark. It%26#39;s not open now or on Monday, but you can call to confirm availability on Tuesday. The deli%26#39;s web site is not working; but I called its number, and got a message indicating that it remains open the same days and hours indicated on the former web site. %26quot;The essential guide to food - Directory%26quot;, by Victor Schrager (Los Angeles Magazine, Nov. 2002), page 3 [near bottom of page] LookSmart%26#39;s FindArticles http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1346/is_11_47/ai_93533946/pg_3 Cache of www.germandeli.net (Feb. 4, 2004) Internet Archive http://web.archive.org/web/20040204110101/http://www.germandeli.net/ Other German grocery stores in Southern California are listed on the following pages. (If you%26#39;re curious whether they carry quark, you should probably call first before driving over, especially since some stores may no longer exist or may have moved.) %26quot;German Deli%26#39;s, Bakeries, %26amp; Markets%26quot; CaliforniaDeutsche.com http://www.californiadeutsche.com/Deli_Bakery_Market2.htm %26quot;Shopping - Groceries and Meat Products%26quot; GermanyCenter.com http://www.germanycenter.com/Shopping_Groceries.htm I haven%26#39;t found a source for Dutch kwark in southern California, though I have found two lists of Dutch grocery stores, including ones in southern California. %26quot;Dutch Products%26quot; Dutch Americans in Southern California http://members.aol.com/DanyBoiToi/products.html %26quot;Places to buy/order Food from *home* are:%26quot; The Holland Ring http://www.thehollandring.com/shopsUSA.shtml If all else fails, I assume you can find out where to obtain kwark/quark by contacting the persons who have posted these lists of Dutch and German shops. Please let me know if you need any additional information for this answer. - justaskscott I used these search terms, in various combinations, on Google: dutch german kwark quark %26quot;san diego%26quot; %26quot;los angeles%26quot; deli delicatessen grocery groceries
Thanks for this info, but unfortunately, this doesn%26#39;t answer my specific question. I called the numbers below, but none of them have the dessert kwark I am looking for. And it is the dessert variety that I am specifically looking for (not the plain variety). Patrick
